Preview: The Rock vs Batista

Can The Animal upset The Brahma Bull, or will the People's Champion lay the smackdown?

The Rock and Batista will meet in the first round of our Champion of Champions tournament, designed to determine your favorite champion of the past ten years.

The Rock is, without question, one of the biggest stars from WWE’s Attitude Era.  Along with Stone Cold Steve Austin, Rocky is what saved the WWE from folding under the pressure of World Championship Wrestling.  In his time, he was a 9-time World Champion, a 2-time IC champ, and a 5-time World Tag Team Title holder.  The second generation star was the 2000 Royal Rumble winner, and he brought the WWE a slew of media attention when he hosted SNL and starred in the Scorpion King while still competing as an active wrestler.  Notable feuds include Triple H, Mankind, and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Batista drew a lot of comparisons to the Rock upon his debut, but he by no means wrestled his career in Rocky’s shadow.  Batista is a 6-time World Champion, a 4-time Tag Team Champion, and the 2005 Royal Rumble winner.  Although he didn’t depart WWE for Hollywood the way The Rock did, he adopted a movie star persona towards the end of his tenure with the company that he portrayed masterfully.  Some of the former Evolution member’s most memeorable matches were contested againt the likes of The Undertaker, Triple H, and John Cena.

Although Batista and The Rock never met in a one-on-one match, they did compete against each other at WrestleMania XX in a bout that saw The Rock n’ Sock Connection tangle with Batista, Randy Orton, and Ric Flair.  Batista’s team were victorious when Randy Orton pinned Mick Foley after an RKO.  Come back Friday afternoon to vote for one of these two powerhouses in the first round of our Champion of Champions tournament!
